Ok, I don’t commute very far for work, my co-workers are jealous how close I live. I would say in an average week, I encounter two to three situations where I came “this close” to being hit during my drive to and from work.
I go through 6 light controlled intersections, 2 roundabouts and encounter another five or six stop sign controlled intersections on my way to and from the office. Ever since school went back from the Christmas break (yes, I AM going to call it the Christmas break) I cannot tell you how many times I have seen people driving right through a stop sign. I don’t even mean doing a semi-stop at the sign, just a blatant drive through at full speed. These are not new stop signs, nor are they difficult to see so I just don’t understand what people are thinking!?
Did it recently become not mandatory that one stop their vehicle at a stop sign? Maybe someone forgot to tell me?
I don’t see any texting going on in these scenarios, just people so focused on something, not sure what but it isn’t driving or what is going on in the roadway. Every morning, there is one particular road that I drive on where I check my seat belt and slow down before I get to the cross street with the stop sign. It’s a residential neighbourhood, lots of kids, pets and the occasional tweaker around yet the drivers have their pedal to the metal at the stop sign they don’t bother stopping at.
WTF is wrong with people? Do they not realize how unsafe they are driving a vehicle in a less than alert state? I am getting to the point where I think driver testing should be done every time you renew your license. It’s ridiculous how many close calls I have had and the weather can’t be used as an excuse, the winter here on the west coast is mild, not even much rain this year.
